Santa Rosa Island Triathlon

windfeatherThe SRI TRI is known for being a great race for beginning triathletes. The distances are manageable, the course is flat, the water is warm and welcoming. We tend to have a large number of newbies. There is a local training group, The Mere Mortals that gets a lot of people ready to do their first Tri. Tri Gulf Coast keeps their schedule for them. Check it out if you are in the panhandle.

To help our newcomers, we will have a meeting for them on Friday evening before the race, at 6:30, on the back deck of the at the Hampton Inn. Come meet us and get your questions answered.

I am looking forward to my third go at the Santa Rosa Island Triathlon and I have been training hard since my first one. I had to learn not to let the excitement of the start get me to start out the swim too first. Lesson learned and it was much easier the second time!

I was a !st time triathlete 20 years ago when my 7 children presented me with a Trek bike and challenged me to do a triathlon! My 1st was “Billy Bowlegs “in Ft. Walton, Fl.and yes I was nervous but I had my cheerleaders and I had trained somewhat and so off I went. I placed in my 55-59 F age group and was bitten by the tri bug! I write to encourage all newbies that at at 55 I could start tri-ing, you can too! I had such a reputation that the Santa Rosa Island Authority asked me to start a triathlon on Pensacola Beach after the summer tourist season! Thus, the beginning of the now 14th year of the Sri-Tri! See what you can do if you TRI!
