We continue to move ahead with our preparations for a great triathlon event on Pensacola Beach despite the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Our alternate swim course is in Santa Rosa Sound on the North side of the island and that body of water is fine. It has proven very serviceable in other events and has served recently as the swim venue for the Mere Mortals training group. Water quality tests have revealed no advisories and it would work very well for the SRITRI on October 2nd if necessary.
As of now the Gulf of Mexico and Casino Beach (where the primary SRITRI swim is conducted) look fine – the beach is clean and the water quality is acceptable. That could vary due to tides, winds and the progress of the cleanup effort in the Gulf. If the Gulf were deemed unsafe for our triathletes to swim in, the race would begin in Santa Rosa Sound.
REMINDERS: early registration ($70) ends July 31st – take advantage of that rate now as fees will increase to $90 on August 1st; you can still get great early registration deals at The Hampton Inn and Portofino Resort; Our great friends at Carrabbas will again headline the Best Post-race Party In Triathlon.
Registration is open for the 2010 Santa Rosa Island Triathlon (SRITRI). The race begins on October 2nd at 7:30 AM. If you will click here , you will have the option to register online at www.active.com or to download a manual entry form you can complete and mail in with your payment. This year, the early registration fee will again be $70 through July 31st. If you are NOT a USA Triathlon (USAT) member, you will need to include a one-day membership fee of $10. We look forward to seeing you on October 2nd in the 15th annual SRITRI on beautiful Pensacola Beach!

Special Thanks
This event depends on our fantastic sponsors and volunteers. Without either we would not be able to put on such a great race. Our generous sponsors are listed below and deserve our gratitude.
The 2009 event was a tremendous success with fantastic weather, a calm and warm Gulf of Mexico and an after-race party that was over the top thanks to our great sponsor Carrabbas. Over 800 triathletes registered and 736 actually ran and finished the event led by our Champions, Olympic Team Member Brian Fleischmann and World Champion Amy Kloner. After the race was over and the sand had settled, we were able to contribute nearly $8000 to area causes. We expect an even larger field and an enhanced event this year. Check out our Press Section for some more stories about the 14th SRITRI.
We have negotiated a $99 soundside rate at the host hotel, The Hampton Inn on Pensacola Beach, during the early registration period and you will want to take advantage of that. Call the hotel at 850-932-6800 or 800-320-8108, ask for sales (Kelly or Katie) and ask for the triathlon rate which is good from September 29 through October 4th. Luxury accommodations are available at Portofino, Emerald Isle and The Beach Club with special triathlon rates we have arranged for you. You can reserve a luxury sky-home/condominium for a substantial discount! These sky-homes can accommodate larger parties resulting in greater savings. Call 866-206-0323 and ask for the group rate for SRI Triathlon. There are many great properties available!
