Registration Is Open For The 15th Annual Santa Rosa Island Triathlon on October 2nd!!

Registration is open for the 2010 Santa Rosa Island Triathlon (SRITRI). The race begins on October 2nd at 7:30 AM. If you will click here , you will have the option to register online at www.active.com or to download a manual entry form you can complete and mail in with your payment. This year, the early registration fee will again be $70 through July 31st. If you are NOT a USA Triathlon (USAT) member, you will need to include a one-day membership fee of $10. We look forward to seeing you on October 2nd in the 15th annual SRITRI on beautiful Pensacola Beach!

Brian Fleischmann and Amy Kloner Are The Overall Champions at the 14th Santa Rosa Island Triathlon

The 2009 event was a tremendous success with fantastic weather, a calm and warm Gulf of Mexico and an after-race party that was over the top thanks to our great sponsor Carrabbas. Over 800 triathletes registered and 736 actually ran and finished the event led by our Champions, Olympic Team Member Brian Fleischmann and World Champion Amy Kloner. After the race was over and the sand had settled, we were able to contribute nearly $8000 to area causes. We expect an even larger field and an enhanced event this year. Carrabbas Again Highlights The Best Post-race Party In Triathlon

Carrabbas will again provide their special food for the post-race party that you will not want to miss. The past two years Carrabbas has generously provided an outstanding meal that our triathletes and volunteers couldn’t stop complimenting. The party will also highlight sandwiches from Subway and other refreshments including Bud Light along with music, white sands and the Gulf of Mexico in the background. You won’t want to miss the fantastic celebration. Tickets will be available for family and friends.

Triathlon Safety Measures for the SRITRI

The primary goal for the SRITRI every year is conduct a safe and fun event for our participants. To this end we intend to have an armada of surfers, kayaks and power craft in the Gulf of Mexico (or Santa Rosa Sound if conditions dictate using that course) for the swim leg. On the bike and run courses we will have more Escambia County Sheriff’s Deputies than recommended along with experienced volunteers and United States Marines. Finally, we will have two ambulances and EMT crews on the course. Our principal priority is safety and our secondary priority is safety. We also want everyone to have a great time, but we want NO injuries.

Dave Bigoney, Blind Triathlete

Dave Bigoney did the 2009 Triathlon and did it very well. The thing is, Dave Bigoney is blind. Here is a pic of Dave ( on the right) going into the water in today’s race.

He has an amazing story. Four years after he lost his sight, a friend, who knew of Bigoney’s athletic background, suggested he do a triathlon. His first triathlon was the 2000 Red Hills Triathlon in Tallahassee, where he was attending Florida State at the time. “That was probably the hardest thing I had ever done since backpacking the Grand Canyon when I had my sight,” Bigoney said. “I was so psyched but I was learning as I went. I thought my butt was going to fall off after the bike and I got a cramp on the run, but I was hooked. Check out this video. It is an amazing story.

Post Race Award Party

Be sure to plan to stay for the post race festivities. We have Bud Light, and Water. We have Subway sandwiches and we have a feast put on by Carrabbas Italian Grill, under the tent behind the Hamton Inn. Awards will be given out and you must be present to win

Greg Reigler, Photographer Extraodinaire, is a Friend of the SRI TRI

A website is only as good as it’s graphics and photographs and when Judi Knight of New Tricks set out to redo the SRI TRI site she needed some great photos. She asked everyone she knew and the results were, well, not so good. Then Judi thought about Flickr and Jackpot! There she found the amazing work of Greg Reigler. Greg is a professional photographer, who shoots for PNJ and has some of his SRI TRI photos on-line there. He has a great breadth in his work, but his action shots of the triathletes in the 2005 SRI TRI were really phenomenal. After seeing these pictures we just had to have them.

Luckily for us, Greg agree to let us use his photos on the website and we are grateful. We wanted to use two of his shots, those of the bike and the run, on the site’s header, so we were really glad he gave us permission and we didn’t have to go back to the drawing board. Here are some more photos from the race and then be sure to check him out for Weddings. His beach wedding pictures are beautiful.

Individual Race Photos by Brightroom

Brightroom is the official Race Photographer of the Santa Rosa Island Triathlon and will be taking individual shots of each triathlete. You can go to their site and give them your race number and they will notify you when the pictures are ready.
