SRI TRI

The 2012 Santa Rosa Island Triathlon will be held on October 6th at Pensacola Beach on beautiful Santa Rosa Island. Registration will open on March 1st. The 2011 race sold out in mid-August and we fully expect this year’s event to sell out as well. Although we intend to enhance the race and provide even more value to the triathletes, we will keep our basic entry fees at the 2011 levels. Check back with our website or our Facebook page for more updates.

Triathletes Race To The Finish

Many THANKS to all our triathletes, sponsors, volunteers, staff, the SRIA and the visitors to Santa Rosa Island for contributing to a tremendous success on October 1st! The 16th annual Santa Rosa Island Triathlon was over the top in so very many ways. We’ll have more information this week regarding the event.

Board Members Jackie Brown and Jehan Clark Present Check to Dustin Yonke

The Santa Rosa Island Triathlon, a not-for-profit corporation, makes donations annually to worthy causes. During the 15 years of the event we have contributed to many deserving groups and have also given back to the sport of triathlon by donating to training programs and to developing athletes.

In 2011 we are very proud to sponsor Dustin Yonke who is an impressive area triathlete and an outstanding young woman. She has qualified for the World Age Group Championship in Beijing, the USAT National Age Group Championship in Burlington, VT and the 5150 National Championship in Des Moines IA. She has chosen to race in the two championships in the United States and our donation will help with her expenses. We wish to congratulate Dustin on her accomplishments thus far and look forward to following her achievements in the future.

Registration is now open for the 2011 SRITRI. Simply click “Registration” above and then click on the appropriate button to either register online (at www.imATHLETE.com) or to download a manual entry form that can be mailed in with your payment. After last-year’s tremendous success, we expect a sold-out field of 1000 for the 2011 event.

Amy Kloner Crosses The Finish Line

DON’T forget that this year’s race shares the weekend with three other great events: The Pensacola Beach Songwriter’s Festival, the Pensacola Beach Arts and Wine Festival and the Sea Turtle Triathlon for kids. The SRITRI and these three fine events will make this a GREAT destination weekend!!

The fantastic September 30-October 2nd weekend begins with the 16th annual Santa Rosa Island Triathlon (SRITRI) which promises to be a tremendous event for the Southeastern and Gulf Coast triathlon communities and Pensacola Beach. Those who accept the challenge and complete the race will receive an awesome Finisher’s medal (2010 medal shown below).

2010 SRITRI Finishers Medal

The race will be complemented by a great Expo with several vendors and exhibitors. All athletes will receive dinner discount coupons and tokens for reduced refreshments on the beach. The Best Post-race Party in Triathlon, presented by Carrabbas, will follow the race and will feature many great prizes and giveaways.

The 2010 Field Prepares For The Swim Start

Additional great events featured for this exciting destination weekend are the expanded Pensacola Beach Songwriter’s Festival (www.pensacolabeachsongfest.com) and the popular Pensacola Beach Arts and Wine Festival (www.pensacolabeachchamber.com). The Sea Turtle Triathlon (www.teammpi.com) for kids will be held on Sunday for its second year after a successful inaugural event in 2010. Plan to be here on the sugar-white sands for a great destination weekend!

Defending Champion Brian Fleischmann and Stephanie Smith from Metairie claimed the crowns in the 15th annual Santa Rosa Island Triathlon (SRITRI). Fleischmann took the lead in the swim and never looked back as Sam Morgan of Atlanta and Niceville’s Derek Oskutis rounded out the podium. Smith held off defending champ Amy Kloner from Albuquerque and Jacksonville’s Jennifer Hanley-Pinto to top the women’s field.

Start Of The 2010 SRITRI

Race Day conditions were superb as the Gulf of Mexico was flat and calm. The gentle current moving from east to west favored the athletes and resulted in a fast swim. Crossing winds cooled the bike and run courses and resulted in mild mid-morning temperatures for the finish of the race. A fantastic post-race party presented by Carrabbas finished off a perfect day.

Results can be found at http://www.eventtiming.com/. We look forward to seeing over 1000 athletes on Pensacola Beach for the 2011 SRITRI.
