2022 RACE PARTICIPATION POLICIES
Competition Rules:
SRI TRI is santioned by USA Triathlon, all USA Triathlon (USAT) Competitive Rules will apply and will be enforced by race directorship as well as USAT Officials present at the event.
Each competitor is responsible for knowing and following all USAT rules.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Unsportsmanlike conduct or the verbal abuse of any race official or volunteer during the race or at any time during packet pickup or post-event activites will result in immediate disqualification.
USAT Membership:
Per USA Triathlon requirements, all athletes must hold a current USAT annual membership or purchase a one-day membership.
Course Time Limits:
The Bike course closes at 9:30am.
The Run course closes at 10:30am.
Event staff reserve the right to remove any athlete from the course following course closure. Athletes may also be removed from the course if event staff determine it is no longer safe for the athlete to continue.
Start Position:
Individual athletes, Aquabike athletes, and Relay Members will be assigned designated event start positions. Penalties for failure to start the event in the assigned position will be enforced per USAT rules:
3.4 Race Conduct. All participants in USA Triathlon sanctioned events must adhere to the rules in this Section 3.4:
m. Wave Starts. When the beginning of any event is commenced by starting designated "waves" or groups of participants at different times, all participants shall start in and with the proper wave or group. Any participant who violates this section by starting in an improper and earlier wave or group shall be disqualified. Any participant who starts in an open or elite wave in an event with age group waves shall be ineligible for age group awards.
Transfers:
If you are unable to race, your registration cannot be sold or transferred to another person per USAT rules:
"DO NOT transfer your number to any other athlete or take a number from an athlete that is not competing.
Penalty: disqualification and one year suspension from membership in USAT for transferring a number without race director permission."
Bib Exchanges:
SRI TRI is not offering bib exchange options.
Dropping Out Of The Event During Competition:
Athletes electing not to complete the course must return their timing chip at the finish line and notify race management.
Timing Chip Return:
The event will be professionaly scored by A Matter of Timing.
Athletes will wear a timing chip during the entirety of the event.
Changes:
Changing from an indivdual participant to a relay or vice versa will be at the discretion of race directorship and may incur additional fees.
Refunds:
There are no refunds, no exceptions.
Deferrals:
Athletes may defer for any reason.

2022 registered athletes may defer their 2022 entry between April 15, 2022 and August 1, 2022.
No deferrals or refunds will be granted following August 1, 2022.
Once a deferral is submitted, the decision is final and cannot be reversed.
Current year registration fees are not refunded and cannot be applied to the following year.
Upon deferring, the registrant is eligible for entry in SRI TRI 2023 at 50% of the cost at time of the athlete's 2022 registration. Race directorship will provide deferred athletes a code which allows entry to the 2023 event at a reduced fee.
Athletes electing to formally defer to 2023 will not receive any 2022 race materials (race shirt, finisher medal, swim cap, etc...).
Weather Policy:
The safety of all athletes and volunteers is the primary concern.
In the event of inclement weather, every attempt will be made to maintain the safety of everyone involved which may include an altered course layout, a shifted timeline of event, or outright cancellation of the event.
Event staff and volunteers will work with local permitting authorities, safety personnel, and law enforcement on determining any such alterations to the event.
Official tropical weather watches and warnings which include the event location will not be overriden by race staff or volunteers.
Athletes will be informed of such a change via postings (e-mail, social media) as well as .announcements at the race venue.
Event Cancellation:
Race directorship reserves the right to cancel the race or begin the event at a later time than the published start time.
Instances would include inclement weather, emergencies, or natural disasters.
In the event of a cancellation there will be no refunds of entry fees from race directorship.
Wetsuit Policy:
As the event is officially sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT), it will follow the USAT wetsuit policy. Notification of official water temperature will be broadcast via audio announcement (race-day morning) as well as via social media should the official water tempertaure be declared prior to race-day morning.
Those athletes electing to use a wetsuit in temperatures greater than 78F and less than 84F will begin the race in a catch-all, supplemental wave following the start of all other group-specific waves and will not be elegibile for awards. Said athletes will be listed in the official results and will also receive finisher medals.
Under pandemic protocol with a time-trial start format this grouping of athletes would seed at the end of the time-trial start progression, behind all athletes electing to not use a wetsuit.
USA Triathlon Competitive Rules (wetsuits)
4.4 Wet suits.
a. Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wet suit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees, but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wet suit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wet suit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Age group participants shall not wear wet suits in water temperatures equal to or greater than 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The wet suit policy for elite athletes shall be determined by the USAT Athletes Advisory Council. The AAC has set the wetsuit maximum temperature for elite athletes at 68 degrees for swim distances less than 3000 meters and 71.6 degrees for distances of 3000 meters or greater.
For the purpose of these rules, wetsuits are swimwear made of material providing thermal insulation. Wetsuits cannot exceed 5mm thickness anywhere. If the wetsuit is made in two pieces, the combined thickness in the overlapping areas may not exceed the 5 mm thickness limit. Any swimmer wearing a wetsuit with a thickness measured in any part greater than 5 millimeters shall be disqualified.
4.5 Notice of Wet Suit Policy.
The wet suit policy for any particular race shall be included on all race literature that is intended for distribution to potential participants. The wet suit policy shall conform to Section 4.4, unless a change is granted in compliance with Section 1.4. The wet suit policy on such literature shall include the following information, if applicable;
a. Any changes from Section 4.4;
b. Any specific restrictions on equipment;
c. Any disparity between the wet suit policy for age group athletes and the policy for elite athletes.
4.6 Measuring Water Temperature.
It is recommended, but not required that the water temperature for a race be finally determined by a measurement made within 2 hours of the race start. A water temperature measurement should also be taken prior to any pre-race meetings in order to forecast to the athletes as early as possible the likely water temperature on race day and the likelihood of whether wet suits will be allowed or mandatory on race day.
