Two Division Awards:
Awards will be presented to each of the following 1st place teams (five (5) awards per team)
All female team
All male team
Team Composition:
Minimum five (5) members each participating in the full individial triathlon event (swim, bike, run) for a team to be able to participate in this competition.
Team Competition Participation:
This is purely an additional feature of the event, all athletes will still compete for traditional age-group placement.
An athlete can win both an age-group award as well as a team competition award.
Team Scoring:
Using overall placement (top-down finish order of the entire event), the first five athletes representing a pre-specified team to cross the finish line will receive the points which correspond to their overall placement.
For example: the first place athletes receives ONE point, the second place athletes receives TWO points, and so forth. The team receiving the lowest score wins. A perfect score would be 15 - athletes placing 1st though 5th overall all on the same team (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +5 = 15).
.
The sixth, seventh, eighth, etc... team members on a team, although they don’t contribute to the compiled score as calculated by the first five team members, can also be important in that they can “displace” scoring athletes from other teams. And, in the event of a tie, the sixth athlete's score will be added to the top-five effectively making the sixth athlete on the team the "tie breaker."
